Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
